Natsuo Sato, Professor Emeritus of NIPR, was elected as a Fellow of JpGU in 2020

Natsuo Sato, Professor Emeritus and a former Vice Director-General of the National Institute of Polar Research, was elected as a Fellow of the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) in 2020. JpGU awards the title of Fellow to researchers who have made a significant contribution to the development of earth and planetary sciences, focusing on paradigm shifts, breakthroughs, or discoveries in the field of earth and planetary sciences.
For his outstanding contribution to solar-terrestrial physics through the state-of-the-art research into north-south conjugate observations of the aurora, and international collaborative research based on the establishment of SuperDARN, the international network of large-scale shortwave radar.
